Kinder Crew Rocks!

Updated Friday, December 7, 2018

Thank you parents for all your thoughts and prayers.  The procedure to remove and repair the skin cancer on my nose went really well.  I was glad I took two days and the weekend to recover because the procedure itself was a little more involved. Four recovery days are definitely needed.  I do plan to be back on Monday.  I miss my kids!  The word I got from Mrs. DeLaura is that the kids have been very good.  I knew they would be.

We covered letters Ss (Sal the Superhero) and Tt (Tava the Tourist) this week.  The kids loved the ending to the Ss book!  Hopefully, they have read this book 3 times to you and will read the Tt book 3 times to you this weekend.  Next week we will review the letters Qq, Rr, Ss, and Tt on Monday and Tuesday.  Watch for the quiz over these letters and our 5 newest sight words to come home on Tuesday.  We will then cover the letter Uu (Upton the Umpire) on Thursday and Friday.

We now have 9 students who know all 60 sight words.  This is still early; so there is no need to panic if your child isn’t close to knowing all 60 yet. Just concentrate on the 25 he/she has been introduced to and the next 5 coming up.  If your child keeps up with what’s being introduce then he/she is on target for learning all his/her sight words by April, and that is great!  Remember, reading and rereading the paper books will help your child learn sight words too!

We spent time this week reading and discussing the ballet The Nutcracker.  The kids really loved the story and were instructed to “retell” the story to a parent.  “Retelling” stories they have read or heard is a literature goal for kindergartners.

Thank you to all the moms who came out in full force to help with the holiday shop on Wednesday.  It was a little crazy, but we did it!  Some of Kinder Crew spent a little too much time shopping and did not get a chance to check out a library book.  We will be sure to give everyone the chance to check out a book next week. Thank you to our class librarians, Mrs. Stevens and Mrs. Magliola, who were able to accommodate a new library time this week.

Next week we will be getting together with our Big Buddies from Mrs. Donsker’s class to do a fun STEM lesson that will entail building a sled for Santa and using ramps.  Kinder Crew will be making a cute little gift to give to their Big Buddy when they see them; so there is no need to pick up anything for your child’s buddy.  This is certain to be a highlight of next week.

Hopefully you saw the lime green letter regarding the supplies your child will need to bring in for our special gingerbread house building activity on Thursday, December 20th.  Everyone has been assigned to bring in one can of white frosting and one decorating item to share with the class.  Thank you in advance for your help!

The week before winter break has two events that parents are invited to attend, the music performance on Wednesday the 19th and gingerbread building on Thursday the 20th.  I am so sorry these fall one right after another.  I understand how difficult this is for most families.

Please be sure to check out below for other important dates!

Thank you again for all you do!
