Reading Counts Program

https://readingcountsbookexpert.tgds.hmhco.com

Let's make reading even more fun....encourage your child to take Reading Counts Quizzes at school.  In addition to school prize levels, I will set individual goals with each student.  Students will be rewarded as they reach these prize levels.  Use the link above to check point levels and quiz availability.  Let's make reading count!

Here are some ideas to help your child with reading at home...

1.  Set a Reading Counts goal and celebrate when your child reaches that goal. Start small and build up to a higher point level.

2.  Pick books at your child's Lexile.

3.  Read to your child.  This will allow your child to be exposed to higher level text and rich language.

4.  Read every day for at least 15 minutes.

5.  Books on CD, tablets, and i-pod are a great way to access higher level books.

6.  Have your child start a book club.

7.  There are amazing apps that help with basic reading skills.  Make reading fun.

About me!

Dear Castille parents,

My name is Lisa Puccio and I am the K-5 Education Specialist at Castille.  I am thrilled to be a part of this community.  In addition to being a teacher at Castille; I am also a Castille parent.  I have a seventh grade son, a fifth grade daughter, and 2 Castille students in training (ages 1 and 3).

This is my 9th year teaching at Castille, 13th year teaching in the Capistrano Unified School District, and my 15th year teaching overall. I have worked with students in preschool through grade six. I have taught in the TLC (Teaming for the Learning of all Children) program, SDC (Special Day Class) program, RSP (Resource Specialist) program, and SAC (Structured Autism) programs. In 2014, I received the honor of Castille's Teacher of the Year.  In 2017 and 2018, I received Sunshine Awards from the Community Advisory Committee (CAC).  Prior to teaching, I attended Cal State Fullerton-many years ago.   I also worked in marketing, accounting, and human resources.  However, I found that teaching is my passion and Iove my job.

I look forward to working with your children  and meeting with you throughout the year. I encourage you to have your child participate in amazing programs offered at Castille.  I am a strong believer that students do better academically when they feel proud of their school and are active in the community.  We have an amazing Castille community and so may opportunities to participate, such as the Reflections art project, Walk to School Wednesday, Fun Friendships, PAL, Student Council, Castille's Got Talent, and on and on....

Please feel free to call or email me if you have any questions. I will be working closely with the classroom teachers to make this a successful year for your child.

Looking forward to another wonderful school year.

Sincerely,

Lisa Puccio
